Angling report for June 2001 for the Fortland Fishery, River Easkey, Co. Sligo.

The first fish of the 2001 season from the Fortland Fishery was caught on 6th June by Henry Selby-Smith, the fine 7lb spring fish took a freelined worm in the platform pool.
The first real flood of the month arrived on the 17th and a fair number of fish entered the river. Unusually for the time of year a number of large fish were seen amongst the usual early grilse. Several grilse were caught including one by Zoe Lally, a few small sea trout were also caught. The signs are good for the season since this is still early for the river, which does not usually start to fish until the first flood after the third week in June.
Bookings at the fishery are good although availability still exists for July, August and September. Two new water keeping staff have joined the fishery and a successful season is anticipated.
